SUMMARY:Disinformation strategies for destabilization, the role of AI
DESCRIPTION:\nAs part of the Ciberimaginario Permanent Seminar Series, this upcoming session will explore one of the most critical threats in today’s digital society: disinformation as a strategy for destabilization, with a special focus on the disruptive role of Artificial Intelligence (AI).\n\n\n\nIn a world shaped by platforms and algorithmic content distribution, false narratives spread faster and farther, undermining democratic legitimacy, social trust, and even national security. This seminar will analyze how AI-powered tools—such as ChatGPT and Midjourney—can be misused to fabricate persuasive fake news and hyperrealistic visuals that distort public perception with alarming precision. From fabricated scandals to manipulated images, AI enables new forms of cognitive warfare that threaten the integrity of public discourse.\n\n\n\nThe session will be led by Michele Zizza, an Italian scholar and communication strategist. Zizza is currently a lecturer in Digital Cultures at the University of Tuscia. He has previously held roles in the Italian Senate, the Ministry of Defense, and the Prime Minister’s Office, combining academic expertise with strategic communication in institutional settings. His work focuses on digital propaganda, platformized societies, and information manipulation in hybrid environments.\n\n\n\nThis seminar offers a unique opportunity to critically reflect on the ethical implications of generative AI, understand the mechanisms behind disinformation campaigns, and explore the need for effective detection and counter-strategies.\n\n\n\nA must-attend session for PhD students and researchers interested in digital media, political communication, cybersecurity, and the future of democracy.\n\n\n\nVenue: Salón de Grados, Edficio Departamental I del Campus de Fuenlabrada.\n\n\n\nTime: 12:00 – 13:00 (CET)\n
